Fuel Protests Cause Delays on Major Roads Across Ireland

(MENAFN) Traffic snarls hit major Irish roads Tuesday as slow-moving convoys staged protests over rising fuel costs, media outlets reported.

Tractors, trucks, and cars converged on cities including Cork, Dublin, Galway, and Limerick, demanding reductions in fuel taxes, media reported.

Motorists faced significant delays on key motorways, including the M1, M3, M4, M6, and M7. Another convoy was making its way toward Dublin city center via the N11 motorway.

Dublin Airport warned travelers to "allow extra travel time due to possible traffic disruption."

Earlier this year, industry group Fuels for Ireland, representing fuel companies, urged the government to review fuel taxes. "Petrol and diesel prices could rise further," the group warned.

The organization highlighted that recent tax and regulatory adjustments have pushed fuel costs in Ireland to among the highest in Europe, noting that new measures increased prices by roughly 4% to 6% at the start of the year.
